| Bio: | My two passions are horses and photography, and if you know that much about me, you're off to a good start. I work with standardbreds. In fact, I have been for seven years. I started off at a training center (Marveland Farms) in Northern New Jersey. This is where I got the bulk of my horse and track experience. Through a series of events I ended up switching jobs in August 2006 and now work at Bluestone Farms, a standardbred breeding farm closer to school. I learned to ride by hopping on an unbroken mare bareback and riding all summer, but over the years I have done everything from taking "real" lessons to exercise riding at a sale barn to breaking racehorses to saddle to switch up their routines. I'll be the first person to admit I don't know everything, but I do know a good bit, and I can't stand people who claim to know it all. Horses are my heart and my life and are what brings excitement and lots of learning into my life (and blog). My second love is photography. I will take pictures of EVERYTHING, but specialize in the equine, since that's where I spend most of my life. I have been published in a handful of magazines and even shot a wedding, but I'm not patient enough to take photography up as a career. Let's just say I'm too free-spirited (or stubborn, depending on how you look at it) to change my ways or give up the rights to my work. My portfolio holds some of my best work and is worth a glance. People often ask me if I ever took a class or if I'm self taught. I took a photo class in high school once. My teacher told me I had no talent whatsoever and should quit while I was ahead. I told him to bite me and have been self-taught ever since. I'm a little bit crazy and I have so much energy it sometimes pours out my ears. Last, but certainly not least, my horse, and equine soulmate, is the wonderful Oz the Great. I started working with him at the training center when he was a yearling. He was a holy terror! He was the one horse I was ever actually afraid of. I would go in his stall with a whip in one hand and his food bucket in the other. Otherwise he would bite, kick, and try to corner and kill me. He also decided he didn't want to be a racehorse. He would lay down when he heard the harness coming and would take himself off the track (at a full fledged gallop) after a mile and a half. Among other things, he stepped on my car and dented the hood. Over the next three years or so, Ozzy turned into a big puppy dog. Very cute, but very frustrating. Eventually, I broke him to saddle, but his training was interupted when I switched jobs. On May 13th, 2007 Ozzy became my horse. Mike had given up on him and when I offered to show up with a trailer and take him off his hands, he agreed. The rest is history.  | |||||
